cost reduction through open-source technologies and accelerator-based delivery
improvement in platform availability and scalability at launch
response time at 1,000+ transactions per second with zero single point of failure
An APAC-based government payments regulatory agency needed to build a secure, reliable, and scalable online payments platform from scratch using an event-driven microservices architecture and open-source technologies to create a competitive marketplace for local SMB retail businesses. Altimetrik was selected as the implementation partner based on its domain expertise in payments and reconciliation.
Using a practitioner-led, accelerator-based approach, Altimetrik delivered a highly available, secure payments platform on time achieving a 40% cost reduction, tripling scalability, and delivering sub-10ms response times at 1,000+ transactions per second from day one.
The client needed an event-driven microservice architecture with stateless services and asynchronous messaging to handle reconciliations, guarantee transaction delivery, and enable transaction reinitiation from any step. The architecture had to be built on open-source technologies Spring Reactive, Redis, Kafka, Cassandra, and ELK while meeting an aggressive delivery timeline.
Security requirements were equally demanding: OAuth2 authorization, payload encryption, mTLS for server communication, and resilience patterns including timeouts, retries, and circuit breakers. The platform needed to operate with no single point of failure from the outset as a government-mandated marketplace for SMBs, downtime was not an option.
As a government-mandated payments marketplace, the platform had to be secure, available, and performant from day one not gradually improved over time. A missed deadline or security failure would not only delay SMB market access but carry regulatory and reputational consequences for the agency at a national level.
Altimetrik implemented behavior-driven development for in-sprint automation and a platform for API automation and faster deployment. The event-driven microservice architecture with stateless services and asynchronous messaging was built and validated in six weeks designed to guarantee transaction delivery with the ability to reinitiate from any step.
The platform was built on Spring Reactive, Redis, Kafka, Cassandra, and ELK, secured with OAuth2 authorization, payload encryption, mTLS, and circuit breakers. PyTest with Robot Framework provided rapid validation coverage across the full stack.
The architecture was designed for high availability with no single point of failure, individually scalable components, and sub-10ms response times at 1,000+ transactions per second delivered 2x faster through Altimetrik Accelerators that compressed the delivery timeline without cutting quality.
Altimetrik combined open-source technology expertise with an accelerator-based delivery model to hit aggressive government timelines without cutting corners on security or reliability the two qualities a payments marketplace cannot compromise on.
With a highly available, cost-efficient platform now live, the agency is positioned to keep pace with rapidly changing regulatory frameworks and bring new products to market faster backed by an architecture that scales independently at the component level.
