Key Outcomes

$5.7M

in avoided point-to-point integration costs across the combined service landscape

30+

reusable core and composite services built on the TIBCO platform

End-to-end

ownership from inception and proof-of-concept through operations and support

Executive Summary

The bank set out to replace brittle point-to-point integrations with a service-oriented backbone. Altimetrik took complete ownership from inception to operations, defining and implementing a service lifecycle model, building more than 30 core and composite services on TIBCO BusinessWorks and Object Service Broker, and integrating with mainframe systems including Hogan and SHAW. The SOA approach avoided an estimated 5.7 million dollars in point-to-point integration costs across the combined landscape, while load testing, performance tuning, and cross-environment support kept the platform production-ready.

One of the largest regional banks in the U.S., integrating branch, IVR, online banking, origination, CRM, and cash-management systems

Business Challenge

Consuming applications across branch, IVR, online banking, origination platforms, CRM, and cash management needed reliable access to core systems of record, from deposits, cards, and loans to wire, treasury, and corporate trust. Direct point-to-point integrations between them were costly to build and maintain and did not scale.

The bank needed a governed service layer that could bridge modern applications and z/OS mainframe systems without multiplying integration cost every time a new consumer was added.

Why It Mattered

Every new point-to-point connection compounds cost and fragility. Quantified against the alternative, the combined services avoided an estimated 5.7 million dollars in point-to-point integration spend, turning integration from a recurring tax into reusable infrastructure.

Solution

Altimetrik took complete ownership from inception through operations. The team developed proofs-of-concept and pilots, defined and implemented a service lifecycle model using HP Systinet, and built more than 30 core services, including composite services, on the TIBCO platform.

A common interface and insulation layer, built on TIBCO BusinessWorks (W3C specification based) and Object Service Broker (native z/OS mainframe based), connected consuming applications to sources of record and integrated with mainframe systems such as Hogan and SHAW. Load testing, performance tuning, monitoring, and administration across all environments kept the platform stable in production.

Business Outcomes

Value

~$5.7M in avoided point-to-point integration costs (combined)

Reusable services replaced brittle one-to-one integrations

Delivery

30+ core and composite services delivered on TIBCO

Service lifecycle model defined and implemented with HP Systinet

Operations

Integrated with mainframe systems including Hogan and SHAW

Load testing, performance tuning, and support across all environments

Altimetrik Advantage

Altimetrik owned the SOA journey end to end, from the first proof-of-concept to running the platform in production. By building a governed, reusable service layer over TIBCO and the mainframe, Altimetrik gave the bank an integration backbone that scaled with each new consumer instead of adding cost, avoiding millions in point-to-point spend along the way.
